Grasshoppers are found in all continents except Antarctica and thrive in a diverse range of environments, from grasslands and meadows to forests and deserts. These herbivorous creatures have a varied diet of different plants, but some can become troublesome pests for farmers by damaging crops. They undergo incomplete metamorphosis, shifting through three life stages: egg, nymph, and adult. Interestingly, the nymphs look like tiny versions of their adult counterparts and go through multiple molts before reaching maturity. Many grasshoppers can produce sounds through stridulation, where they rub their hind legs against their wings. This unique noise is often used for communication and mating.
